#5 A great day of my life

Today was a great day for me. I was working with end users. Users whom I have given training from last two years. And to my surprise they are still unfamiliar with the system. I saw how much resistance they have to adopt a new system. Till now they were working on the old system as well as new system simultaneously. This time when they were asked by there management to user only the new system they were came with lots of excuses. Management almost ended the implementation of the new system. It’s good that we were able to show the management the enough evidences that it’s the user resistance only not the problem with the system. So after all, the matter resolve and now they are agreed to use our system.
O my god, what the hell the debate was. Today I face the biggest resistance by the user to use new system. I have implemented systems in the company where the users were doing manual record keeping as well as in the companies using computerize system earlier. But anyways with my experience I can say whatever the case might be the end user always put there resistance for new system. To my surprise it is always more from the users who are already using any computerize system. Obviously it is difficult for those users who have never use the system earlier to adapt them self with the new system. But I always found it easier to train them as compare to train a user that is already using any other system. It is like clay I believe, if it is wet we can make any shape out of it but once it is set to any shape it is difficult to change its shape.
I can make out the difference at the time of initial interaction itself. When I tell any end user about new system, they want to seek features and functionality in there own way. If the user is coming for the first time to any system then one want to look how system actually works and try to adjust him according to it. He is like a new learner we can teach him how to use our system but on contrary if user already used some or the other system it makes the situation worse. When I interact any such kind of user he tries to find out the extension of his existing system instead of new one. Main problem comes with the functional and data flows. It is the main cause that provides them rigidity. Actually they don’t want to change there existing work flows of day to day operations. At the time of training itself they are asking that how this new system will do there particular entry that they are doing right now in such and such manner. They don’t want to see how our system will treat this entry, better or worse no matters but they want it to be in there existing way. Even thought we are giving them new and may be better system they are not willing to listen to us.

I remember a movie where a teacher told his student that, it is difficult to teach him since his cup is already full. So true it is, better or worse, I don’t know…………..
